Phil Tomson is a Head of Endodontics at the University of Birmingham, UK and is Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry with Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust where he leads endodontic teaching and is clinical lead for a hospital regional specialist endodontics service (referral base of 6-million). Phil initially worked in general dental practice, followed by several junior hospital jobs across a range of disciplines. He received the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship for Restorative Dentistry in 2011 following higher speciality training and holds specialist registration with the GDC in Endodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. He completed his PhD in 2013 with research focused on material directed regeneration of the dentine-pulp complex, for which he won the Wladimir Adlivankine ESE research prize and the prestigious FDS research fellowships from the RCS of England. His research interests lie in basic and translational approaches to tissue regeneration / engineering of the pulp and periradicular tissues, diagnostic techniques and clinical outcomes in vital pulp therapy. He principle supervisor for several PhD and Master’s research students, is Head Examiner for the MEndo RCS Eng Speciality Examination, a member of the Editorial Board of the International Endodontic Journal and is current President of the British Endodontic Society.
