Although dentists are not always recognised as pioneers of tissue regeneration, they have used regenerative techniques for almost a century. Advances in understanding pulp healing show that vital pulp therapies (VPTs) can offer predictable, minimally invasive management of pulpal disease, including irreversible pulpitis. Careful treatment can preserve the tooth’s natural defence system and avoid root canal therapy.
