Beyond the smile: exploring the oral–systemic link and its role in overall health outcomes
Learning Content
Oral health extends far beyond the mouth. Growing evidence shows that the oral microbiome and oral inflammation are closely linked to overall health, influencing conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cognitive decline, and other chronic diseases. In this session, we will explore the fascinating connection between the mouth and the rest of the body, examining the biological mechanisms that underpin these relationships and the latest research in this rapidly evolving field. We will learn how oral bacteria can impact systemic health, discuss the role of salivary diagnostics and the oral microbiome in prevention and early detection, and review practical, evidence-based strategies to optimise both oral and general wellbeing. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of the oral–systemic link and actionable insights that can be applied in both clinical practice and everyday life.
