Achieving periodontal health still depends on effective plaque control at home despite advances in clinical care. The BSP’s S3 guidelines stress patient-centred care, risk assessment, and tailored treatment. Key elements include optimising plaque control, using adjunctive mouthwashes, and improving oral health literacy to support long-term patient engagement.
Aims
To discuss the challenge of achieving and maintaining periodontal health, using British Society of Periodontology (BSP) guidelines to establish the treatment framework. Supporting patients to achieve optimal self-care through the most effective utilisation of plaque management strategies including the consideration of mouthwash inclusion.
