Orofacial pain remains really challenging with regard both diagnosis and patient management. There are over 300 possible diagnostics treated by several siloed specialties with little joined up thinking, causing harm by misdiagnosis and delayed diagnoses. There are solutions!

• a review of our understanding of trigeminal pain
• a pragmatic classification and provide up to date diagnostic criteria
• a strategy to prevent misdiagnosis of trigeminal pain
